Winning Online Poker requires the right and appropriate mindset.  You need to approach online poker the proper way in order to sustain and profit in this long-term business.  In today’s post we will go hopefully go over some eye-opening perspectives that will allow you to cope with winnings, losses, and learning in the correct manner to fully maximize your winnings.

Becoming a successful online poker player requires more than the best poker strategy.  Anyone can read poker strategies and tips online but it really requires a lot of hard work and discipline to implement them correctly.  A huge stepping stone to improving your game is thus approaching the game of online poker with a correct poker mindset.  Here are some of the essential factors to consider when considering your own poker playstyle:

  • How committed are you?  Are you playing poker for leisure fun to kill time? Or are you in it for the long haul.  If you really treat poker like a business you can reap in massive profits and winnings in the long run.  Decide for yourself.
  • If you are committed, are you taking the right steps?  If you really want to improve your game then make sure you have all the necessary information to step into online poker tables and dominate weaker, play-for-fun players.  This includes: a steady study-to-play ratio,  (Learning in poker is an absolute must, regardless of what level or stakes you play at..there will always be more to learn.) Poker forum participation, purchasing poker analytic tools for HUDS, a proper bankroll management system.  These are all key things that you should know for CERTAIN and be accustomed to if you plan on playing online poker seriously.
  • Dealing with wins/losses.  As mentioned earlier, if you have the right bankroll management..your swings for the day should not be that emotionally impactful.  That means you can’t be throwing your mouse at the monitor everytime you get a bad-beat or sweating up a storm when you decide to throw out huge bluffs.  You should always be playing at a comfortable stakes level, with the correct attitude.
  • This leads to playing for +EV.  With the correct attitude and tilt control, all you should care about when playing online poker is whether you made the correct play.  Regardless of whether you win or lose in the hand, you should always be analyzing your own play and whether it will turn out profitable if you simulated it over 1000 times.  +Expected Value is our ultimate goal as serious online poker players.
  • A Winning poker mindset is one that is confident and realistic in where to go.  We have certain goals we want to achieve and that includes making +EV plays and learning constantly.  Bankroll Management is key.  Tilt control is key.  Patience and Discipline will be the basis of your poker winnings in the long run.
  • Step back and decide where you stand among all this.
